When Jack Fields of Southern Pines, NC arrived at the scoring table at the eGolf Tours Columbia Open presented by Grouchos Deli, he commented on how nice it was to play a round of golf without recording a single five on his scorecard.
Turns out nine birdies and nine pars worked out just fine for the former UNC golfer, who carded a blistering second-round 62 to reach 14-under for the week, in turn grabbing a share of the lead at the halfway point of the 72-hole event.
Meanwhile Michael Sims is T8th taking part in the Columbia Open, Sims shot a Second Round 3-under par 68.
Sims started out on the Back Nine, following a Par, Sims recorded the first of his six Birdies on the day on the par 3 eleventh. Two more Pars followed before a Bogey on the par 5 fourteenth saw Sims move to Even for his round. Sims earn the stroke back on the very next hole with a Birdie on the par 4 fifteenth, but another Bogey on the very next hole saw him back to Even. Sims closed out his first Nine Holes with back to back Birdies to make the turn 2-under par.
Sims started his second nine holes with two consecutive Pars, this was followed by a Bogey on the par 4 third, following a Par, Sims recorded another Birdie on the par 5 fifth that saw move back to 2-under. This was followed by two consecutive Pars and then a Birdie to move to 3-under par before closing out his round with a Par to close out at 3-under par.
