Former amateur star Nick Taylor of British Columbia, Canada made his first start in over a year on the eGolf Tour at the seventh annual Columbia Open. With nine Birdies in his first 15 holes at host Columbia Country Club, Taylor posted an 8-under 64 to take the opening-round lead through 18 holes of the 72-hole event.
Six players are tied for fourth at 6-under par through 18 holes, with Bermudas Michael Sims, Cam Burke from Ontario, Canada and Mikel Martinson from Lubbock, TX posting 66s at the par-72 Columbia Country Club, while Matt Hill from Ontario, Canada, Chris Thompson from Lawrence, KS and Drew Weaver from High Point, NC posting 65s at the par-71 Cobblestone Park Golf Club.
Sims started out on the Front Nine and after back to back Pars, Sims recorded the first of his six Birdies on the day on the par 5 third. Three more Pars followed before a Birdie on the par 5 seventh saw Sims move to 2-under for his round.
After closing out the Front Nine with two consecutive Pars, Sims had two more Pars to start the Back Nine, this was followed by a Birdie on the par 5 twelfth, another Birdie on the par 3 fourteenth saw Sims move to 4-under before closing out his round with two Pars and then back to back Birdies on the par 3 seventeenth and par 4 eighteenth.
