Mitchell Campbell and Scott Gilbertson

There was mixed fortunes for Bermuda’s 2 Junior Golfers in the Second Round of the FCWT tournament at Falcon’s Fire in Orlando, Florida. Gilbertson followed his first round even par 72 with a second round 12-over 84 to slip down the field to finish T36 while Mitchell Campbell turned in another 1-over par 73 to move up to T14.

Gilbertson opened his round in frustrating fashion recording a Triple-Bogey at the par 4 first hole after being unable to find his opening shot off the tee. A Bogey followed at the second hole before Gilbertson pulled his game together. He played the next 10 holes at 1 over par offsetting Birdies at the par 5 4th and 10th holes with 3 bogeys. A Double-Bogey at the par 4 13th hole after being within 100 yards of the green with his tee shot knocked him off-stride again and he dropped 5 more strokes over the closing holes with Double-Bogeys at the 16th and 17th holes and a bogey at the last for his 12-over 84.

Campbell had the much better day of the 2 and, after opening with a bogey at the first, recorded 3 birdies and a par over the next 4 holes. After 2 pars Campbell had his own Triple-Bogey set back at the par 3 8th. He closed his front 9 with another par and made the turn at 1 over.

A par at the 10th was followed by a bogey at the par 3 11th immediately getting the stroke back with a birdie at the par 4 12th. After a par at 13 Campbell got his fifth birdie of the day at the par 5 14th . He recorded 2 more pars before dropping back to 1 over par with a Bogey at the 17th. This proved to be his final score after he recorded a par at the last hole.

Campbell’s 1-over second round total matched his first round but was a striking departure in how he reached this score when compared to the previous day. In the first round his 15 pars, 1 Birdie and 2 Bogeys had him leading the field with the most holes at or under par. His second round had 6 fewer pars but 4 more birdies to go with the 4 holes with bogey or worse.
