IslandStats.com
Alpine Country Club is proud to be the only area club with a former-PGA Tour Professional as its Club Pro and considers Ed Kirby to be the cornerstone of its golf program for years to come.

Kirby is the latest high profile player to enter the 3rd Annual Bacardi National Par-3 Championships.

The National Par-3 Championships is a two-day 36-hole championship golf tournament will be played at The Fairmont Southampton on March 23-25, 2012.

As a former PGA Tour Professional and four-time U.S. Open participant, Kirby fell in love with golf at an early age. At Cumberland High School, he was selected to the Rhode Island All-State Team three years in a row before heading to Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina on a full scholarship. There, Kirby was quickly named to the All-American Team and was crowned the 1989 Rhode Island Open Champion.

Soon after, Kirby who has played in Bermuda for some 20 years, began to hone his skills on the Hogan Tours, competing on tour from 1990 through 1992. On the national and international scene, Kirby reached the final cut in the U.S. Open in 1987, 1989 and 1993. He then qualified for the U.S. PGA Tour in 1994 and played on the Asian PGA and the South African PGA Tours.

In his travels around the world, Kirby discovered his love for teaching the game. Returning to the United States, he became a PGA Teaching Professional, and has never looked back. Kirby was named the Club Pro at Alpine Country Club in 2001.

In 2006, Kirby won the RIPGA Match Play Championship and was the Player of The Year in the RIPGA Chapter. He was also named RIPGA Player of The Year for 2008.
