Bermuda's Men's World Amateur Golf Team Announced

Jarryd Dillas & Walker Campbell
The Bermuda Golf Association has selected Jarryd Dillas, Walker Campbell and Mikus Ming to represent Bermuda at the 31st Men’s World Amateur Team Championship - Eisenhower Trophy (WATC), to be played from September 5th – 8th in Maynooth, Ireland. Robert Vallis, a three-time WATC participant and former Senior British Open Amateur champion, will accompany the team as non-playing captain.

Dillas, 32, will be making his record-equaling eighth appearance for Bermuda at the WATC. Dillas was crowned the 2018 Men’s Order of Merit Champion after finishing in the top-3 in all but one of his 10 BGA events this past season, including a runner-up finish in the 2018 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play at Port Royal Golf Course last month.

Campbell, 20, will be making his first appearance at the WATC. Campbell recently completed his sophomore season at William & Mary University in Virginia, highlighted by a school-record 65 (-7) in the first round of The Invitational at Savannah Harbor in February. Campbell finished third in the 2018 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play.

Ming, 18, will also be making his first appearance at the WATC. Ming recently completed his senior year at Hilton Head Preparatory School in South Carolina and plans to attend Tennessee State University on a golf scholarship beginning next month. Ming finished fourth in the 2018 Bermuda Amateur Stroke Play.

BGA President, Craig Brown said, “The Eisenhower Trophy is one of the most prestigious events in all of amateur golf, and I have every confidence that Jarryd, Walker and Mikus will fully embrace the experience and give a good account of themselves.

“All three players are products of the Bermuda Junior Golf Association, which highlights the longstanding success of that program. The team has a nice balance of youth and experience, and I think they’re in with a real chance to earn Bermuda’s best ever finish at the event.

“This will be Jarryd’s eighth time representing Bermuda at the WATC, which ties him with Brendan “Bees” Ingham and Louis Moniz for the most appearances by a Bermudian at the event. It’s a fantastic achievement and a testament to his commitment to competing at the highest level.

“In contrast, this will be both Walker and Mikus’ first time competing at the WATC and the association couldn’t be more proud. It’s exciting to be able to select two such talented young players and proof positive that our sport has a very bright future ahead,” concluded Brown.

The Championships were last played in 2016 in Riviera Maya, Mexico, with Australia winning the Eisenhower Trophy by a commanding 19 strokes, and the Bermuda trio of Dillas, Mark Phillips and Eric West placing 49th.
