Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) has awarded the Unsung Hero Award to Casey Truran.
This award is presented in honor of an individual who exemplifies dedicated service & effort, with outstanding sportsmanship, team spirit as well as the utmost respect for fellow teammates, coaches, and horses.
Equestrian Team Head Coach, Ashley Henry described Truran as, “The perfect role model for the award’s description. Truran is an incredible teammate and cheerleader. He always put his teammates first while also working just as hard himself at achieving his highest goals.”
Truran has had a very commendable 2021/2022 season, he was the High-Point Rider at several Intercollegiate Horse Show Associations (IHSA) Regional Shows. Truran was the IHSA Reserve Champion Rider in the Regional Cacchione Cup, which is awarded to Open Flat & Fence riders, and is based on the number of points earned throughout a season.
In addition, Truran was the IHSA Reserve Regional Champion in Open Flat, and the IHSA Zone Champion in the Open Flat. At the IHSA National Championships, Truran placed 6th overall in the entire country.
At last month’s ANRC National Equitation Championships, Truran finished 10th overall and was also a member of the 4th place team overall.
Describing Truran, coach Henry concluded, “Truran is the first person to step up when the work get s tough and offer to do the dirty work! He always knows how to put a smile on your face and had been a great athlete.”
