This last year has placed several challenges on grade 9 student Julia Slade and she as handled each one in perfect stride.
The original plan was for her horse Sur La Mur to travel to the USA in May 2020. This would provide this talented partnership an opportunity to gain experience competing together in USA competitions prior to Slade commencing her first year of studies at the Ethel Walker Boarding School in Connecticut.
However, this was not to be!
The global pandemic, the suspension of horse flights to and from Bermuda changes in all shipping schedules as well as the arrival of hurricane Paulette resulted in Sur La Mur not arriving in the USA until mid-November, and an entire year lapse since this team had competed together.
Not to be deterred, Slade and Sur La Mur focused on the exciting competition opportunities that lay ahead of them, and compete they did.
Slade and Sur La Mau qualified for the following three annual Championship Finals.
The Hamel Foundation NHS 3 Feet 3 Inches Equitation Championships are to be held on October 31st at the National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky.
The USHJA 3 Feet 3 Inches Medal Finals (Eastern Region) as well as the NEHC Junior Hunt Seat Medal Finals Under 18 3 Feet 3 Inches – both of which will be held at the New England Equitation Championships in West Springfield Massachusetts from October 20th – 24th.
