President of the Bermuda National Athletics Association Dr. Freddie Evans has announced Bermuda’s NACAC Senior Championships team.
Evans said, “BNAA has finalized its selection for the NACAC Senior Championships in Freeport, Bahamas. This event will take place from August 19th – 21st.
The team will be led by the Commonwealth bronze medalist, JahNhai Perinchief. Perinchief will be joined by his Commonwealth teammates, Dage Minors, Tiara DeRosa, and Sakari Famous. Caitlyn Bobb was selected for this team, however, after a grueling collegiate indoor, and outdoor season, and international meets, she tweaked a hamstring during the Commonwealth games and it was decided to have her shut down and rest up for the next season.
BNAA is also pleased to introduce a few first-timers to senior-level competition. Antonio Bailey will be competing in 400m and 200m. Suresh Black will be competing in the 100m and 200m. Mikal Dill and Ryan Outerbridge who competed in July in the U23 NACAC championship move into the senior ranks competing in the long jump and 1500m respectively.
Keturah Bulford –Trott the sophomore sprinter who also runs at the University of Maryland Baltimore County will be running the 200m. Shayla Cann the secondary school senior will be competing in the 1500m.
NACAC Senior Championship is introducing mixed relays into this event and Bermuda is expecting to place a team into this event (Baily, Trott, Minors, Cann).
Devon Bean, BNAA athletic director will be leading the coaching efforts for these games and he will be joined by Gerry Swan as coach and vice-president of the BNAA Allison Outerbridge will serve as team manager.
The team is elated to have Coach Swan as part of this effort. Coach Swan’s knowledge, of every aspect of Athletics, will only enhance the collective efforts of this team.”
