The Carifta Games 2020 have been rescheduled for a third time, with the Carifta Member Federations agreeing to the dates August 13th 15th, 2021.
The announcement was made by North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association President Mike Sands during a virtual press conference.
With the recently announced dates for the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Regional Exams scheduled for June 14th to July 16th, 2021, which affects all English-speaking countries in the Caribbean, a request was made to have the previously scheduled Carifta Games July 2nd 4th to be moved.
The World Athletics Under-20 Championships is scheduled for August 17th 22nd, in Nairobi, Kenya, and the 2021 Junior Pan American Games is September 9th 19th, in Cali, Colombia.
"We had no choice. Looking at all of the dates and recognizing the calendar that was already in place, we had looked at all of the scenarios and I do mean all of the scenarios," Sands said. "And as a result, recognizing what is available to us, we took a decision that the Games would now be held on August 13th, 14th, and 15th."
Bermuda National Athletic Association President Donna Raynor said, The decision for the new date was based on avoiding an abandonment of the competition altogether.
"We all agreed, that if this date doesn't work, then we would have to look at canceling the Games and no one wanted to cancel," Raynor said. Raynor added that the change received the blessing of World Athletics president Sebastian Coe.
