Evans Misses Out on NACAC Election Spot

The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Queretaro Mexico, hosted the elections of the new NACAC Executive Council during its biannual Congress, where delegates from the 31 countries of the North American, Central American and Caribbean area including Bermuda participated.

In a second round of voting Mike Sands of the Bahamas became the new President Elected of the Area participating against 4 other contenders, Alain Jean-Pierre (HAI), Claudia Perez (MEX), Warren Blake (JAM) and Ephraim Serrette (TTO).

Bermuda’s Dr. Freddie Evans missed out on being Elected to the NACAC Member at Large during the Elections in Mexico.

Evans would finish 5th with four positions up for grabs. Evans finished with 17 votes.

For vice president was elected Catherine Jordan (BAR), Treasurer Stephanie Hightower (USA) and members at large Cydonie Mothersill (CAY), Calixto Sierra (HON), Evelyn Farrell (ARU) and Howard Cornelius (ANT).

Presented at the Congress were, the IAAF President Sebastian Coe and IAAF staff members Niels Lindholm, IAAF Compliance Officer, Jee Isram Senior Manager, Helen Delany Director of Governance and Jackie Brock-Boyle Director of Communications.

The Congress was chaired by Prof. Victor Lopez, who announced early in 2018 that he was not running for the re-election. The new Executive Council will take office at the end of the Doha World Championship in Qatar.
