Tyrone Smith has finished third competing in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in rainy conditions.
Smith competing in the Men’s Long Jump recorded a top leap of 7.69m.
Smith recorded a leap of 7.38m on his first attempt, before leaping 7.69m on his second attempt.
Smith then recorded back to back fouls on his third and fourth attempts, before getting a measured leap of 7.54m on his fifth attempt, Smith then closed out with a leap of 7.55 on his sixth and final attempt.
Smith said following the event, “The fouls weren't necessarily the problem today. The conditions were tough definitely. One of the fouls was a solid jump but it took everything to put that together. With the rain and cold it was really hard to feel my foot on takeoff.”
Smith concluded, “Of course it sucks to foul and I certainly could have won it but it was just difficult to deal with those conditions. When your leg and foot are numb it's kind of maybe you get lucky.”
