Arantxa King began competing in the Women’s Long Jump at the London 2012 Olympic Games, King will compete in Group B of the Preliminaries.

After two jumps King was in 5th place in Group B and in 10th place overall with a top leap of 6.40m, King reached her best leap on her first attempt, before fouling on her second attempt. On her third and final attempt King leaped 6.20m. King finished 6th in Group B and 13th overall to miss out on qualifying for the London 2012 Olympic Games Women’s Long Jump Finals.

The rules for the Olympics are as follows, each athlete gets three attempts to achieve the qualifying distance. Once all jumps have been completed all athletes who have achieved the qualifying distance go through to the final. If fewer than 12 athletes achieve the qualifying standard, the best 12 athletes go through.

King tweeted, “God has a funny way of showing his humor, tied for 12th ended up 13th! Finished the season as an Olympian can't be too mad about that blessed.”
