The 41st Lime Carifta Games got underway under bright and sunny skies, that soon disappeared and made way for overcast conditions that included a few rain showers, however it did not stop the show as the athletes began chasing their dreams.
The first official event was the Girls Open 100m Pentathalon Hurdles that saw the Bermuda pair Aaliyah Nolan and Jordan Bascome finish 7th and 8th clocking 18.87 and 19.26.
During the Boy’s Under 17 Shot Putt Jaquan Hatherley finished 9th with a top throw of 11.28m. While in the Girls Under 20 Triple Jump an emotional Akeila Richardson finished 4th with a leap of 11.00m and Keunna Dill finished 5th leaping 10.59m.
Keizhari Knight finished 9th in the Girls Under 17 High Jump leaping 1.45m, with Azaire Smith missing out on advancing to the Under 17 Girls 400m Finals when she was clocked in at 1:00.27 finishing 10th.
The two Bermuda Under 17 Boys 400m runners also both failed to get to the Finals, as Aiyetoro Hinds finished 9th clocking 54.62 and Antonio Bailey finished 10 clocking 56.80.
During the Under 20 Boys 400m dash, Karim Creary finished 14th clocking 53.45 and Kyle Godfrey finished 15th with a time of 53.47.
Nolan finished 4th in the Girls Open Pentathalon Shot Putt, with a toss of 7.05m, while Bascome finished 6th with a throw of 6.81m.
