Jenaya Wade-Fray’s Brixton Topcats' head coach Steve Vear will head into the summer with confidence for the future after his team signed off their first top flight season with a 53-34 defensive lockdown of visiting Leicester Riders.
Wade-Fray did not suit up for the game, she remained on the bench dressed in street clothes.
The play-caller watched on with satisfaction as his team got onto the front foot early and never looked back as they showed their determination to wrap up matters with a victory after missing out on a post-season place.
Led by Ta'Yani Clark, the home side laid out their intentions right from the tip-off as they rattled off the first ten points of the contest at 'The Rec' to take control early.
Riders never recovered and struggled to find any kind of offensive rhythm in the opening half and headed to the locker rooms having only managed 15 points in the opening 20 minutes and trailing by double-digits.
They returned to the floor looking more focused and it proved to be the case as they turned the tables and threw a defensive blanket over the Topcats - restricting them to just one score in the entire quarter.
However, Brixton regained their composure and re-established their authority in the past period to stave off any thoughts of Riders completing their comeback.
