Wade-Fray and Brixton Looking for Play-off Spot

IslandStats.com
It's all to play for in South London on the final weekend of the regular season as Jenaya Wade-Fray and her Brixton Topcats host Manchester Mystics in a straight shootout for the remaining spot in the Play-Offs.

The Mystics claimed their second win by holding on to beat Cardiff Met Archers last Sunday, but lost 78-67 against the Topcats when the two teams met in Manchester back in January.

And, Brixton's energetic wing Jenelle Grant is expecting plenty of support from their home crowd as they look to seal their spot in the post-season.

'The team are really excited about our final regular season game,' she enthused.

'It is our last game at Brixton Rec. this year which always brings a good crowd and it is our chance to secure a Play-Off spot which will add to the atmosphere.

'Considering we have had a bumpy season, winning our last league game and making the Play-Offs would be a huge achievement for the team.

'We know that Manchester will be as equally motivated and given that they will be traveling to London after a win against a tough Cardiff team, we need to make sure that we control the game and keep turnovers to a minimum.'

Brixton have been a shining example of the array of young talent on display in the WBBL this season, and Grant believes the opportunity has been a great learning curve, whilst praising her more experienced team-mates.

'Whatever the outcome, this has been an amazing opportunity and experience for the junior players.

'Playing against great individuals and teams up and down the country has been at times tough, but also rewarding.

'The exposure to our senior players like Amber Charles, Vanessa Da Silva, Faith Okwuosa and Wade-Fray has been one of the highlights of the year for me.

Their work ethic, the encouragement and advice they have provided on and off the court has been invaluable.

'We just now need to finish the regular season with a win.

'We need to follow the instructions of Coach Vear - if we can execute the plays he calls, we will give ourselves a great opportunity to take part in the WBBL Play-Offs for the first time.'
