Reason For Not Entering CBC Tournament

IslandStats.com
Last week www.islandstats.com ran a story headlined Concern Bermuda Does Not Enter Championships, today we can set the record straight on the reason why.

Basically, the games being held this year were scheduled for last year, combined with the fact that the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) did not have a venue scheduled and Bermuda Officials were waiting to see if it clashed with the Island Games.

Because of how the CBC do things they wait until January or February of the year the games are held to look for a host country for that same year.

Last year they asked for teams to pay the registration fee and sign up for that year even though they couldn’t give anyone the actual dates or location.

Bermuda along with almost all other countries stated their interest but wouldn’t pay or 100% commit until a host country was found and the dates set.

With the small base of Bermuda players local officials wanted to make sure Bermuda could produce a competitive team on the dates provided.

The CBC was not able to find a host last year and this year they found one but the host could only afford to host 8 teams.

As soon as it was announced Bermuda officials contacted the CBC and wanted to register but were placed as an alternate, Bermuda finished 5th in 2011.

The teams that got in:

Antigua
Bahamas
Barbados (Not in last games)
BVI
Cuba (Not in last games top team in CBC)
Guyana
St. Vincent
Virgin Islands
