Marshall sophomore point guard Norrisha Victrum played mostly out of position, but played perhaps the best game in coach Matt Daniel’s two seasons. And junior college playmaker AJ Johnson – who did play the point – was very good, too.
The result was a 71-56 victory for Erica Woods and her Marshall University Women’s Basketball teammates over Wofford, thanks to a 48-point, three-turnover Marshall second half and an impressive performance by the ball-handling duo.
The only bad news for Marshall came with 6:56 left in the first half, when senior wing Woods limped off the floor after contact under the Marshall Basket. Daniel said she may have a left ankle fracture, with a final determination on the injury scheduled in a few days.
“Erica does most of the talking on the floor, guiding us, but when she got hurt I just felt like I had to step up,” Victrum said. “I played here last year, and Erica and I communicate a lot on the floor. As a point guard, I know how to speed it up.
Daniel, commented after the game on Woods’ injury, “On injuries, I never really say a word to the players. We don’t know for sure if it’s broken or not. I’m big on coaching the next play and what am I if I go to the team and say ‘this is what happened on the last play.’ We just move on. Erica knows that. That is no disrespect to her injury that took place.”
Victrum, spoke on keeping the composure of the team following Woods’ injury, “We started to talk to each other more. We encourage each other a lot, huddle up and listen to coach.”

Woods played 11 minutes without scoring, she grabbed 1 Rebound and she had 1 Assist.
