Wolfpack Youth League Round Up

IslandStats.com
The Wolfpack Youth Basketball Fall League Season tipped off with three games inside the BHS Gymnasium.

Knicks 46 Pacers 28

In the first game of the season, Coach Jason Lowe’s Knicks defeated Coach Sarah Moxley’s Pacers by a score of 46-28.

Coach Lowe, said, “I was real proud of the effort and pride they played with.” Player of the game was Kobe Reid, point guard of the Knicks.

Bulls 26 Thunder 17

In the 2nd game, Coach Paul Wilson’s Bulls pulled off a solid win against Coach Charles Peters’ Thunder winning by a score of 26-17. It was a mostly defensive effort from both teams as the Thunder struggled to score.

Coach Wilson said following the game, “I am liking the way the players are playing defense and the offense will come but overall happy with the win.”

“Keevon Minors was player of the game I consider him the coaches dream because he can do it all,” concluded Wilson.

Heat 48 Spurs 42 – Triple Overtime

The first featured game of the Wolfpack Fall league was a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals putting Coach Lakeisha Bell’s Spurs teams against Coach Vernon Lambe’s Team Heat.

The game started off quickly as both teams pushed hard in the first quarter. Kumari Tannock made an immediate statement on the court, letting all players know that he meant business. Even still, the Spurs jumped out to a quick and sizeable lead behind the play of Sean Tucker, Jacy Lowery, Jermayne Dears, and Alex Fox.

Spurs coach Bell, was proud of her team stating, “The game went very well, we had to make some subs late in the game (because) there were some players that we used who already played in other games, so they were pretty tired and we made do with what we had.”

Going into half time, the game seemed like it may be out of reach for the Heat. That’s when Bryce Gonsalves entered the game. The powerful combination of, Gonsalves rebounding with the great ball handling of Dears and Lowery, and the Heat were starting to mount a comeback. The third quarter saw the Heat erase the entire deficit that the Spurs had built in the first half of play.

Going into the fourth quarter one could sense that this was going to be a game for the record books. As the teams battled back and forth the fans were in awe. Alex Fox was impressive on all accounts, playing strong defense with blocked shots and steals, and also was a dominant force on offense around the basket.

No player stood out more than the Player of the Game, Andy Perez. Time and time again, Perez blew right passed the defense scoring basket after basket. His dribble penetrations often lead to scores or assist as he and Tannock worked together impressively.

It took three overtimes to settle this one, and in the end it was a final push by Tannock and Perez that led the Heat to a 48-42 victory.
