Bermuda Netball Association Summer League Round Up

The Bermuda Netball Association’s Summer League season resumed with a double header.

The BAC Women in Blue defeated PHC 30 – 17, Nikita Trott scored 22 goals to lead the BAC Women in Blue, while Darika Simons added 8 goals, Vernicka Symonds scored 9 goals for PHC and Sonja Townsend added 8 goals.

Trott was named the BAC Women in Blue MVP, while Townsend was the PHC MVP, Helen Wilson was the BAC Women in Blue Best Attacker, while Debra Saltus was the BAC Women in Blue Best Defender, with Tinee Glasford the PHC Best Defender.

The Bermuda Under 19 team defeated the New Kids on the Court 41 – 5, the Bermuda Under 19 team were led by Nabiiilah Nasir who scored 15 goals, Kaamilah Nasir added 10 goals, Selah Tuzo scored 7 goals, with Zariah Amory adding 5 goals and Debre Evans scored 4 times, Diara Benjamin scored all 5 goals for the New Kids on the Court.

Amali Smith was named the Bermuda Under 19 team MVP, with Tuzo named the teams Best Attacker and Micah Pond was named the teams Best Defender.

Bermuda Netball Association Summer League Round Up

The 2018 Bermuda Netball Association’s Summer League season got underway at the Bernard Park with a Double-Header.

The Bermuda Under 19 team defeated PHC 37 – 10, the Bermuda Under 19 team were led by Selah Tuzo and Kaamilah Nasir who both scored 10 goals, while Zariah Amory added 9 goals and Amali Smith scored 3 goals, PHC got 5 goals from Tyra Lyn Simmons and Vernicka Symonds.

Smith was named the Bermuda Under 19 MVP, while Edonna was the PHC MVP, Smith was named the Bermuda Under 19 team Attacker of the Game, while Simmons was the PHC and the Defender of Game for the Bermuda Under 19 was Amory, with Edona named the PHC Defender of the Game.

The BAC Women in Blue defeated the Bermuda Under 16 team 25 – 15. The BAC Women in Blue got 14 goals from Nikita Trott and Darrika Simons added 11 goals. Amaiah Butterfield scored 7 goals for the Bermuda Under 16 team, Nisaiah Berkeley added 5 goals, Coriah Simmons scored twice and Kemiyah Butterfield added the other.

The BAC Women in Blue Defender of the game and MVP was Sarafina Woolridge, while the Bermuda Under 16 team Defenders of the game were Jade Johnston and Kacey McGowan, who were both named the team’s joint MVP.

BNA Double Elimination Knockout Round Up

The curtain came down on the Bermuda Netball Association’s Winter League Season with the Double Elimination Knockout Tournament taking place at the Bernard Park.

Although they were missing some key players the Phoenix Heat and Coach Erika Russell picked up the Trophy.

The Phoenix Heat would go undefeated winning the Final 4 – 3 over the Lindo’s Tigers.

Bermuda Netball Junior & Senior League Round Up

The Bermuda Netball Association hosted the Who’s Who Tournament in the Under 12 and Under 16 Divisions as well as senior league play at the Bernard Park.

Under 12 Who’s Who Tournament

The Storm won the Tournament after winning all three of the matches collecting 9 points, while the North Village Lady Rams Reds finished second with 6 points and the Phoenix Sparks finished 3rd.

Under 16 Who’s Who Tournament

It was a three way tie as every team had one loss. It went down to goal average and the Storm were declared the winners, with the Phoenix Fire 2nd and the North Village Lady Rams finished 3rd.

Senior League

The Phoenix Heat defeated the Storm 57 – 24, the Phoenix Heat were led by Danielle Raynor who scored 53 goals, while Arkeita Smith added 4 goals, while Nabiilah Nasir scored 8 goals for the Storm, while Kaamilah Nasir added 6 goals, Diara Benjamin scored 5 goals and Selah Tuzo scored 4 goals.

The Tigers defeated the North Village Lady Rams Reds 40 – 31, the Tigers got 23 goals from Jahkenya Trott, while Charlene Gomez added 9 goals and Apryl Jackson scored 8 times, the North Village Lady Rams Reds were led by Chaquita Simmons who scored 22 goals, with Jahtuere Trott adding 9 goals.

Bermuda Netball Preparing for International Competitions
The Bermuda Netball Association National Program is in full swing with Senior, Under 19 and Under 16 Teams training regularly.

The Senior National Squad are currently preparing for the AFNA 2018 Netball World Cup Qualifiers, being held in Barbados August 2018, while the Under 19 Squad is preparing for the Canadian Developmental Under 19 Series in July 2018.

Bermuda National Team Player Danielle Raynor, will be off to Ghana, West Africa in July with the ACE It Foundation. The Ace It Foundation (AIF) is a registered NGO in Ghana, co-founded by Bermudian Quinton Sherlock Jr and Nicolo Catto. Their mission is to empower young people in Ghana through education and sports.

Raynor said, “I am very interested in this endeavor and giving back by teaching a skill (shooting) that I love doing. I feel honored to receive the invite as Bermuda’s leading goal scorer and also a Bermuda National player!”
