BSSF Primary School Cross Country Round-Up

Saltus Grammar School and Warwick Academy each won two team championships at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Primary School Cross country championships at the National Sports Center Flora Duffy South Field Stadium.

Dalton E. Tucker Primary School’s Yara Muhammad was crowned the Under 9 Girls Champion finishing in 9:55 just when the heavens opened with rain. Zaya Berkeley from West End Primary claimed silver finishing ahead of Ivy Pena from Somersfield Academy in third. Saltus Grammar School claimed the gold in the team event with 57 points. Bermuda High School School finished in second with 80 points with Warwick Academy rounding out the podium spots with 95 points

The Under 9 Boys race got going after a brief rain delay and saw Saltus Grammar school produce an impressive team effort. Adrian Myers stopped the clock at 8:54 to win the gold medal ahead of Liam Horribin who finished second in 8:55. Khaleef Daley from Harrington Sound Primary finished third in 9:09. Saltus had seven runners finish in the top ten and easily won the team event with 24 points. Warwick Academy finished in second with 126 and Somersfield Academy finished third with 137.

Naomi MacGuinness from Warwick Academy pipped Sukanya Jobson from Purivs Primary at the tape to win the Over 9 Girls race. The Front Street mile winner edged Jobson with both recording a time of 10:46. Solae Goater from Gilbert Institute rounded out the top three with a time of 11:01. Warwick Academy earned team honors with a total of 65 points. They edged out Bermuda High School with 69 points while Saltus finished a distant third with 118 points

Warwick Academy runners swept the podium spots in the Over 9 Boys race. Sami Luber enjoyed the biggest win of the day winning his race by over 20 seconds winning in a time of 10:09. Christain Phillips-Steede finished second in 10:31 while Dage Butterfield came third in 10:36. Warwick won the team division with 63 points. West Pembroke Primary finished second with 111 and Saltus finished third with 128 points.
