Bermuda High School (BHS) won both Girls Divisions while Saltus Grammar School won both Boys Divisions at the 2023 Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross Country Championships at the Arboretum.
Gabby Cechini from Somersfield Academy won the Under 13 Girls Division a full half minute ahead of Isla Paddison from Saltus Grammar School. Cechini finished with a time of 14:04 with Paddison stopping the clock at 14:37. Bermuda High School’s Georgiana Felix finished third in 15:01. BHS won the team event with their top five runners finishing in the top eleven. They finished on 38 points with Warwick Academy scoring 63 and Somersfield Academy rounding out the podium in third with 84 points
Saltus Grammar School swept the medal winners in the Under 13 Boys Division. Ta’han Eve claimed Gold in a time of 12:25. Carter Thomas finished second in 12:32 while Harrison Estwanik won Bronze with a time of 12:41. Saltus were clear winners in the team division winning with a score of 20 points after seeing their top five runners finish in the top nine. Dellwood Middle School School and Warwick Academy both scored 83 points but Dellwood Middle School won Bronze as their sixth placed runner was better than Warwick Academy’s
Bermuda High School were dominant in the Over 13 Girl’s Division as well with Somers Estwanik winning in a time of 14:11. School mate Cristina Abend finished in second place ahead of Aria Mosquera from Saltus who finished third. BHS finished 50 points ahead of their nearest rival in the team standings. BHS finished with 28 points followed by Saltus in second with 78 and Warwick Academy in third place with 96
Front Street Mile winner, Cameron Atkins won the Over 13 Boys Division. The Warwick Academy student who just recently met the CARFITA qualifying mark won the race in 11:34. The Saltus pair of Declan Reardon and Conor Hupman rounded the podium with times of 11:48 and 11:49. Saltus won the team event with 23 points. Warwick Academy finished with 80 points ahead of Dellwood Middle School who finished third with 90 points.
