We are just two days away from the start of the 108th Appleby Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby, today www.islandstats.com reveals that 1,090 participants in total have registered for the race.
Registration remains open, but as of this report 666 individuals have signed up, while 106 teams have also registered, with 424 runners.
A search on individuals running who we deem are favorites sees, the Defending Champion Lamont Marshall registered, as is multiple time winner Chris Estwanik. Tim Price has been allowed to register, while Chayce Smith and Jay Donawa have also thrown their names in the hat.
On the Ladies side, a former Champion Dion Breary has entered as has Martina Olcheski-Bell, Melissa Logie and Karen Smith, however there is no sign of Laura Wright, but she still has time on her side.
We will hopefully have the full completed list posted by tomorrow.
But in a twist Estwanik has released the following statement.
“Unfortunately, the tear in my hip and multiple breaks are too painful. Additionally, every medical professional has strongly advised against me even lining up on Wednesday so I've decided to make the responsible decision as opposed to the emotional one. Thanks for all the support. Gutted to miss it yet again as it is without a doubt my favorite day of the year.”
