Speculation surrounding Chris Estwanik defending his Men’s Bermuda Day Half Marathon Derby title was ended with an email to www.islandstats.com, confirming a question put to Estwanik a few weeks ago.
Seen wearing a protective boot during the 2016 KPMG Round the Grounds Race took place at the Botanical Gardens a month ag, Estwanik was hoping to get a good diagnosis, but in his email to www.islandstats.com Estwanik said, “It’s not good, I still have a few more weeks in the boot so no May 24th this year.”
Estwanik who claimed his first title in the race back in 2008, won five straight before an injury forced him out of the event for back to back years.
Estwanik returned to take his title back with the race beginning in St. George’s for the first time in 37 years, holding off a challenge early from young Tyler Smith, with Lamont Marshall eventually finishing second.
