Bean Three-Peat in Cross Country Championships

IslandStats.com
Virginia State University's senior Taylor-Ashley Bean won her third consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Cross-Country Championship, at the Wake Med Soccer Park, helping her Women's team finished fourth out of 12 teams.

Bean was pushed for most of the 3.1 mile course by Fanta Fofana of St. Augustine's University, but with approximately 700 meters left in the race, Bean asserted herself and wouldn't be denied her third consecutive title.

The Lincoln University won the women's team title with 59 points just one point ahead of Winston Salem State University (60), while Shaw University rounded out the top three with a team score of 95 points. There were a total of 70 student-athletes representing the 12 CIAA Schools.

"Each year, I talk to the team about getting on the podium," said head coach Jason Lamont- Jackson. In the previous four years, we have had some very close championship finishes (placing second twice by 2 points), but have always been a top 3 team. Today was an excellent showing for Taylor-Ashley in her 3-Peat accomplishment and I couldn't be more proud of her."

"Obviously, XC is more of a team sport, so our fourth place finish has already motivated the ladies for in-door and more importantly for next XC season and get back in the top 3."
