IslandStats.com
The Argus Group today announces that it has again partnered with the Bermuda National Athletics Association and Bermuda Olympic Association to present the second annual Women in Sports 5K Run/Walk and Girls Rock 1 Mile Run. The event will take place on Sunday, April 27th and the theme for this year’s run is mothers and daughters.

This marks the second year for the annual run, which was launched in 2013 as part of the Women in Sports Expo. The Expo is scheduled to be held every two years to encourage participation by girls and women in physical recreation and sports.

The event consists of a 1 Mile race at 3:00pm and a 5K run/walk at 3:15pm. Both the 1 Mile and 5K routes begin and end at the Argus Group, 14 Wesley Street, Hamilton. Children under 18 can participate in the Girls Rock 1 Mile Run. Girls over 13 may also participate in the 5K walk or run.

Registration is available online at www.racedayworld.com. The online registration deadline is Friday April 25. Paper registration forms can be dropped off at the Bermuda National Athletics Association offices at 48 Cedar Avenue by Wednesday, April 23. Entry is $35 for adults and $15 for children under 18 years of age. Race numbers can be picked up from the Argus offices on Wesley Street on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00am until 12:00pm. The first 400 people to register will receive a t-shirt and bag.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each of the mother/daughter combinations. They will also be presented to the top three individual finishers in the 1 mile run and the 5K run, and a prize will be awarded to the company with the most participants, the school with the most participants and the National Sports Governing Body team with the most participants.

Donna Watson, President, Bermuda National Athletics Association, said, “We are pleased to be organising this run/walk for the second year. Last year’s inaugural event was a great success in bringing women together to not only participate, but also to learn from each other. As women, it is important to encourage each other and to have fun staying active, and this event is designed to do just that. We are pleased that the Bermuda Olympic Association and the Argus Group are partnering with us again this year.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer, The Argus Group, said, “The Argus Group is always pleased to be involved with events that promote being active and we are delighted to be sponsoring a race that promotes physical activity among women. With this year’s theme of mothers and daughters, we are encouraging girls and women of all ages to join in and enjoy some exercise together.”

Katura Horton-Perinchief, Chairman of Women in Sports, a committee of the Bermuda Olympic Association, said, “Bermuda Women in Sports Committee is dedicated to having a positive influence on access for women to an enriching sport experience. This 5K Run/Walk is designed to provide women with a fun sporting event. The mothers and daughters theme highlights the importance of being active across generations and provides an opportunity for mothers and daughters to be active together. Our goal is for the spirit of this event to carry through to other sporting events throughout the year.”
