Bermuda Half & Full Marathon Round Up

Jordan Chipangama and Lauren Hagans are the 2014 Bermuda Half Marathon Male and Female Champions, while Richard Kessio and Valentyna Poltavska are the 2014 Bermuda Marathon Male and Female Champions.

Chipangama from Zambia had a weekend to remember, first finishing third in the Front Street Mile Elite Men’s race, then running to victory in the Bermuda International 10K yesterday and then today set a new Bermuda Half Marathon race record when he crossed the line in a time of 1:04:21 eclipsing the previous record by 6 seconds. Sammy Kiplagat from Kenya finished second with a time of 1:06:39, while Chris Estwanik finished third taking more than two minutes off his previous best clocking 1:06:43.

American Hagans finished 8th overall with a time of 1:18:08, while Lilian Mariita from Kenya was the second Female finisher and 11th overall with a time of 1:22:41 and Ashley Estwanik finished as the third Female finisher and 12th overall crossing the line in 1:22:54.









Kessio clocked an overall time of 2:24:08, he went through the halfway stage of the race along with second place finisher Teklu Deneke in sub 1:09. Kessio was clocked on the first lap with a time of 1:08:58, while Deneke was clocked at 1:08:59, Kessio then opened up a lead on the second lap running an average of 5:44 per mile, Deneke finished the race in a time of 2:34:02.




Poltavska was the third finisher overall clocking a time of 2:56:25 running most of the race all alone, she recorded a time of 1:24:47 on her first lap, before running a 1:31:38 second lap. Wes Dearborn was the third Male finisher and fourth overall clocking a time of 2:58:25, while Stephanie Hodge was the second Female finisher, she crossed the line 10th overall with a time of 3:16:29 and Heidi Ball rounded out the top three Female finishers as she finished 17th overall clocking 3:29:28.
