The Argus Group, in association with Swan’s Running Club, once again will sponsor the annual Argus Crime Stoppers 5K Road Race & Walk on Sunday, October 20, 2013. A shorter event of 2.5K (1.5 miles) for juniors aged 8-15 years will also be held. Both the junior event and the 5K walk will start at 8:30 am. Runners will begin at 9:00 am.

The event, which is sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletic Association, is intended to raise awareness for Crime Stoppers Bermuda, a civilian community service, which enables anyone with details of criminal activity to report such information without fear of exposure or retribution by calling its confidential 24/7 hotline 800-TIPS (8477) or by logging on to its website www.crimestoppers.bm.

Everyone who takes part in the race will be eligible to win a $500 travel voucher and there is a $1,000 prize for the school with the largest number of students entered in the junior event. In addition, the first 500 people to register will receive a goodie bag with a t-shirt.
2012 Female Champion Jennifer Alen
Runners will be split into the following age categories: youth (16-18 years), open (19-39 years), masters (40-49 years), seniors (50-59 years) and veterans (60+ years). There will be a trophy/plaque for the male and female 1st and 2nd place finishers in all age groups, as well as a 3rd place prize for male and females in all age groups. Race participants are encouraged to wear crime fighter inspired costumes on race day; a prize will be awarded to the best dressed male and female.

Registration is available online at www.racedayworld.com. Alternatively, entry forms can be collected from the Argus offices at 14 Wesley Street, Hamilton. Paper entry forms must be returned to the Argus offices by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, October 16. Online entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday, October 18. The entry fee is $35 for adults/youths (there is a reduced fee of $27 for Swan’s Running Club members) and $15 for juniors.

Race numbers should be picked up on Saturday, October 19, between 10:00am and 12noon at the Argus building. Late registration will be accepted during this time for an extra fee of $5. There will be no late entries allowed on race day.

Raphael Simons, Chairman of Crime Stoppers Bermuda, says: “The annual Argus Crime Stoppers 5K Road Race & Walk provides an opportunity for Crime Stoppers to educate the community on the importance of community safety and speaking up about crime. Crime Stoppers Bermuda is a civilian community service which can be used to confidentially report any crime without fear of retribution. Rewards of up to $2,000 are offered for information leading to a successful arrest or seizure of illegal drugs and firearms. Crime Stoppers thanks the Argus Group for their continued support of this race and for helping Crime Stoppers Bermuda to raise awareness.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, says: “As one of the island’s leading insurance companies, we share Crime Stoppers’ mission in the fight against crime. The Argus Group is pleased to once again support the annual walk and run to raise awareness for Crime Stoppers. Sunday morning is a wonderful opportunity for friends and families to come out, get active and recognise the importance of protecting our community.”
