The Fairmont Hamilton Princess and The Fairmont Southampton hotels will be holding the 35th annual Fairmont to Fairmont road race on Sunday January 8th.

April Vesey of MAAC, who co-directs the Fairmont to Fairmont race said, “This race always has a fun atmosphere because it is the start of the year and everyone is looking forward to getting out after the holidays.”

The race begins at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess at 9am and ends at the Fairmont Southampton’s Ocean Club, where there will be a full breakfast for the participants and the awards ceremony. Free ferry transport for runners to Hamilton departs from the Waterlot Inn at 11:30am.

A new Male Adult Open Champion will be crowned as last year’s winner Chris Estwanik will be off the island according to Vesey.

“We are excited and dis-appointed, we are excited as now someone else will have a chance to win the race, but not having Estwanik is a letdown as you always want the best runners to take part.”

Estwanik and Victoria Fiddick won the 2011 Fairmont to Fairmont Road Race, Estwanik completed the course almost three minutes ahead of the next finisher in a time of 37.54, while Fiddick finished in a time of 49.30.

It is unknown at this time if Fiddick will face challenges from the likes of Jennifer Alen, Deon Breary, Tamika Williams, Kristyn Robinson or the 2010 champion Ashley Estwanik.

During the 2011 race Ashley Estwanik, struggled early in the race with a left leg injury, but during recent events she has shown she has returned to form.

The 35th annual Fairmont to Fairmont road race takes runners on a 7.2 mile course between the two landmark hotels. Proceeds from the race will be donated to Douglas Wakiihuri’s charity for children in Kibera, Kenya the charities aim is to mobilize 1,000 - 1,500 under privileged children, while the local charity from the event is the Family Learning Center.
