Fertig and Garvin Break Challenge Record

Record Breakers in Bermuda
IslandStats.com
Chris Fertig and Tyson Garvin roared into the Record Books after they powered the 37-foot Statement Marine center console with twin Mercury TDI diesels into the St. George’s Town Cut Channel.

The friends completed the course in a time of 21 hours and 39 minutes setting a new record for the 760 mile ocean crossing breaking the New York to Bermuda Challenge record which was held by Neil Burnie, who set the record back in 2002 aboard a Renaissance Marine Prowler 302 clocking a time of 22 hours and 23 minutes.

With an excited Kathy Hendrickson, Fertig’s sister standing on the rocks of the channel John Trimingham who was the official Bermuda timekeeper called out the Record Time.

After clearing customs, Fertig and Garvin was congratulated by Hendrickson, Trimingham and the Mayor of St. George’s Kenneth Bascome.

Fertig said his Statement monohull can maintain more than 30 knots in rough conditions with its air-cushioned deck, which compensates for slamming loads. The air-bag technology is being developed by Statement Marine, of St. Petersburg, Florida.
