Boorman Passes at Motocross Track in Tampa Bay

A 20-year-old man from Bermuda died in what police are calling an accident Tuesday night at the Moto X raceway, 4300 126th Ave., Pinellas Park, Tampa Bay.

According to a report from Pinellas Park police, officers and rescue personnel responded to a call about an accident between two participants at the motocross track about 7:08 p.m. Pinellas Park Fire Department paramedics offered aid to both, but one died. Bermuda Motocross Racer Dale Boorman was pronounced dead at 7:11 p.m.

Boorman’s father was at the track and he was notified that his son had died.

The second person involved, Matthew Gardner, 23, of Lakeland did not suffer serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Boorman had been riding his motorbike north along the inside of the track. Gardner was riding south along the outside edge when he entered a jump just prior to a turn in the track.

As Gardner went airborne, he entered Boorman’s lane of travel and his motorbike struck Boorman in the head and upper body.

This case is being handled by the Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s office and is classified by the Pinellas Park Police Department as an accidental death.
