A total of 165 sailors including six young sailors from Bermuda Flag began competing at the 2022 Optimist South American Championships in Brazil.
Two races were sailed on Day One.
Nina Gotfredsen leads the Bermuda sailors on the leaderboard, Gotfredsen ended the day in 47th place with 42 points, this after finishing 27th in the first race, and then 15th in the second race.
Rory Savage is in 59th with 46 points, after finishing 25th in the first race and 21st in the second race, Trystan Hocking is in 61st with 48 points, finishing 43rd in the first race, before finishing 5th in race two.
Oliver Soares is in 115th place with 74 points, having finished 18th in the first race, but then was Black Flagged in the second race. Dylan Menzies has 84 points after finishing the first race in 32nd, before finishing 52nd in the second race.
Aiden Mahone is 160th with 105 points, he crossed the line 49th in the first race, he was then he was U-Flagged in the second race, U-Flagged is a ruling where a boat is deemed to have prematurely started the race.
