Kempe & Stovell Conclude Youth World Championships

IslandStats.com
Sebastian Kempe and Nicole Stovell concluded competing in the Allianz Youth World Sailing Championships in The Hague, Netherlands.

15-year-old Rocco Wright from Ireland only graduated from the Optimist to the ILCA 6 dinghy a few months ago but is clearly a fast learner and one to watch for future years at Youth Worlds.

It was a very close battle between multiple sailors in the last-race showdown in the ILCA 6 Male One-Person Dinghy, Wright took Gold by a single point from last year’s winner Kempe.

In the only race of the day Kempe battled until the end and on the last run, he had the Gold Medal in his grasp with enough boats between him and the previous three leaders.

However, it wasn't to be this time as a sailor from Israel was flagged for Rule 42 before the finish and had to retire, removing the 1 point of the cushion Kempe needed over Wright.

Kempe won the Silver Medal by beating Ole Schweckendiek from Germany on a tiebreak.

Two medals at the past two World Sailing Youth Worlds is a testament to Sebastian's work ethic and some excellent coaching from Shaun Priestley at GP Watercraft.

In the ILCA 6 Female One-Person Dinghy Fleet, Stovell finished 23rd with a Net Point score of 128.
