By all accounts, the Bermuda sailors had a fantastic week of SSL training camp in great conditions in Grandson, Switzerland. All week they had a really good range of light wind training through to strong winds.

In the first few days, training with Switzerland the team was still learning the SSL47 boats and finished quite some way behind.

With one day blown out and too windy to sail, the team took to a cycle ride, exercising team building as much as they exercised their quads.

Wednesday to Saturday was a highlight, racing against four teams every day - in the water were Antigua and Barbuda, Slovenia, and Poland, and Team Bermuda.

It was just incredible for the Bermuda sailors to be on the start line with these teams and racing some of the world's greatest sailors, the excitement was definitely high! Bermuda had one of the younger, least experienced teams in keelboats and they would hold their own.

The victory was Bermuda’s on Thursday when they came out on top, winning Bermuda’s first day of racing, which was an incredible experience for the team, beating Americas Cup sailors and Olympic medalists.

So all in all a really good week of training in Grandson and it has spurred on Team Bermuda for more racing in the future.

The team can't wait to get back out in the SSL 47s and see what the team’s made of.

Team captain Rockal Evans said, “I am proud to see the training squad had an amazing week in Switzerland representing Bermuda proud! A massive THANK YOU to vice-captain Emily Nagel for keeping the team in line while I was absent from the camp due to Covid lockdowns in Sydney AUS. ”
