During the Edward Cross Long Distance Race, the East End mini Yacht Club claimed the first six spots in the race, but one of the biggest surprises was the finish of first-timer Allen Frith.
Frith and his crew Phil Worboys sailed Orion to a third-place finish in a time of 2:42:43.
Frith and Worboys sailing this event for the first time, found themselves in the mixed with the leaders coming out of Dockyard and was able to maintain the speed required to challenge the eventual winner in Stephen Dickinson.
Frith said, “This Fleet is so strong with so many people capable of winning this race, but one of the things I love about it is that everyone helps each other, I would have never been able to make it to the start line if it was not for Dickinson, who right up until Friday was helping me to rig the boat, so I am very grateful.”
