Juan Barclay from Peru collected on line honors for the Sailonline.org Newport Bermuda Race 2020. He finished just over a quarter-mile in front of 2nd place finisher, IJ, from Finland.
Barclay's finish time was 8:08:01 on Monday evening, with an elapsed time was 3 days-6 hours-8 minutes-1 second.
Both competitors led the Gibbs Lighthouse Division for much of the race "aboard" their XP55s.
The first Italia 14.98 boat crossed the finish line, as Spain's Cesar Garcia was the winner of the Finisterre Division in the Italia Yachts USA 14.98 crossing the finish line at 10:29 pm on Monday evening just under a mile ahead of Derek Joubert from South Africa.
It was a hard-fought battle that led to a fierce last beat in the St. David's Lighthouse Division with Michael O'Donnell beating out Scott Bearse in the Dehler 46s, BY 7 seconds!!
Both competitors were supposed to sail in 2020 Newport Bermuda Race IRL (in real life) and we able to apply their first-hand knowledge to the online version. After finishing around 7:00 am Bermuda Time, both competitors congratulated each other in the chat with O'Donnell thanking all the competitors "Thank you, everyone, for a great first time online race experience!"
Great Britain’s Tony Phillpott won the Doublehanded Division in a Jeanneau Yachts Sun Fast 3300. He was followed close behind by American Sloan Burns who would have sailed IRL onboard an Italia 13.98, Artemis. Phillpott finished 8:52 am with Burns just 3 minutes behind.
