The 2017 Youth Red Bull America’s Cup final got underway in the Great Sound, with the defending champions New Zealand, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Spain and host Bermuda.
It was a Fairytale start for TeamBDA2017 who took the lead in the First Race and never looked back the Bermuda team from the first mark to the final mark on the course. The Bermuda team sailed the opening race with style as they opened a gap on the chasing pack. Land Rover BAR Academy finished second followed by Spanish Impulse third.
Race two saw Filiere Team France win the second race of the day, followed by Land Rover BAR Academy and Team Tilt finished third, Bermuda crossed the line in 8th place.
Land Rover BAR Academy won the third and final race of the day, with NZL Sailing Team finishing second and Artemis Youth Sailing was third, Bermuda finished 5th.
Land Rover BAR Academy are the overall leaders after Day One with 28 points, while Team Tilt and Team France Jeune both finished with 21 points. Bermuda come off the water on Day One in sixth place with 18 points.
