The 2016 Edward Cross Long Distance Race is less than a week away and on current form once again Stephen Dickinson will enter the event as favorite.
However the 18 time winner and current champion said on Sunday after winning the Alton Millett Regatta in the St. George’s Harbor, “A lot of these young guys are sailing fast, I know Pat Young and myself will have our work cut out for us on the day.”
This year will see the event get some coverage, but the worry for many around the long serving event that has been a part of Bermuda History since 1945 is that the event will be overshadowed by the start of the Americas Cup Final which will be sailed on the same day as the race next year.
Dickinson went on to say, “Scott Fox has his boat sailing fast as does Maxwell Curtis, former winner heath Foggo is back in the boat and you could never leave out the veteran Gladwin Lambert.”
“Last week we sailed the Flag Pole to Flag Pole race and Lambert and Curtis battled all the way to Ferry Reach, so that pair will be looking to get out of the channel in a good position to see if they could rekindle that challenge,” continued Dickinson.
The race gets underway on Monday June 20th in the St. George’s Harbor at 11am.
Dickinson concluded, “I am just looking forward to another challenge and hopefully it’s a good day for everyone.”
