Meanwhile Stephen Dickinson and Pat Young won the 2016 Flag Pole to Flag Pole race which began off the West End Sailboat Club Flag Pole and not the Flag Pole in Hamilton.

Five boats took the challenge of making the track east, with youngster Maxwell Curtis and his crew Stefan Furbert chasing down Gladwin Lambert and his crew Tre Maxwell at the start.

With the wind blowing West-North-West at 5-10 knots Curtis and Lambert battled back and forth with Dickinson just behind in third, but staying on the rumline as the pair kept each other in site.

Just as the race entered the Oil Docks in the Ferry Reach Area, Dickinson’s experience took over as Lambert and Curtis got caught below the rumline and Dickinson was able to sail by both of them, but the pair did not give up.

Dickinson said after the race, “Those guys were fast today, they both took off and I just kept saying to myself keep the boat moving and things would work out.”

In the end Dickinson and Young clocked a winning time of 2:52:17, Lambert and Maxwell finished with a time of 2:53:09 and Curtis and Furbert finished third in 2:53:30.
