Groupama Team France Skipper Injured

IslandStats.com
The Western Australian is reporting that Frenchman Franck Cammas, the skipper of America's Cup team Groupama Team France, "seriously" injured his foot in a training accident, his team said on Monday.

This will be the second lot of Bad News for the Sport of Sailing in Bermuda and the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) in less than a week.

The BTA have been busy promoting Sailing Events in Bermuda over the last year, however they have gone silent following the Flying Phantom Series cancelation and now this.

The Groupama statement did not detail the nature of Cammas's injury but sailing website Le Telegramme said his foot had been "partially severed".

Cammas was airlifted to hospital in Nantes by helicopter from the bay of Quiberon in Brittany, where his team were in training for the 2017 America's Cup in Bermuda.

Cammas hit "the rudder blade with his leg" while the catamaran was travelling at full speed, Groupama said.

Cammas, 42, is one of France's most successful sailors having won the Volvo Ocean Race in 2011/12.
