The eyes of the sailing world will be squarely fixed on Portsmouth this weekend, as the America's Cup World Series event heads to the south coast of England.

It’s a competition steeped in tradition and pageantry, with the first running of the event taking place in 1851. Great Britain have never fielded a winning team in the event known among the sport’s cognoscenti as the “Auld Mug,” but legendary sailor Sir Ben Ainslie will be hoping to put that right this time around, with his squad the main attraction at Southsea Common.

Schedule for racing

BIG SATURDAY – July 25th


9am–11am: The race teams and boats get ready in the naval base – come and view in the Historic Dockyard.
10am: Race Village opens on Southsea Common and the day programme kicks off – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone.
10.30am: RNLI helicopter display – Waterfront Festival Arena and Fanzone.
11am–12.30pm: Moth racing and kitesurfing displays – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone.
12pm: Red Bull Matador air display – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone.
12.30pm: The race boats leave the naval base and are escorted to the race course area in front of the race village on Southsea Common.
12.45pm–1.20pm: Race boats tuning up before racing with live commentary.
1.30pm–3pm: Two races – – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone.
3.15pm: Skippers come ashore.
3.30pm: Skippers in media mixed zone in Fanzone Arena.
4pm: Blades air display – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone.
5pm: Day programme ends.

SUPER SUNDAY – July 26th

9am-11am: The race teams and boats get ready in the Naval Base – come and view in the Historic Dockyard.
10am: Race Village opens on Southsea Common and the day programme kicks off.
10.30am: RNLI helicopter display – Waterfront Festival Arena and Fanzone Arena.
11am–12.30pm: Moth racing and kitesurfing displays – Waterfront Festival Arena and Fanzone Arena.
12pm: Trig aerial display – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone Arena.
12.30pm: The race boats leave the navy base and are escorted to the race course area in front of the race village on Southsea Common.
1.45pm–1.20pm: Race boats tune up before racing with live commentary.
1.30pm–3pm: Two races (double points) – Waterfront Festival Arena & Fanzone Arena.
3.15pm: Skippers come ashore.
3.30pm: Skippers in media mixed zone in Fanzone Arena.
4pm: All skippers and sailors to main stage in Waterfront Festival Arena.
