In the cover of darkness Lending Club 2 has shattered the 635-nautical mile Newport to Bermuda sailing record, by more than 15 hours when they crossed the finish line off Bermuda with an overall time of 23:09:52.

Lending Club 2 skippered by Ryan Breymaier, and the crew of the 105’ Trimaran, successfully achieved their goal of establishing a new world sailing speed record for the course and getting in Bermuda in less than a day.

Breymaier said, “We were a bit nervous when we was leaving from Castle Hill Lighthouse, in Newport, Rhode Island as it was very light air, but after some two hours we were up and running.”

The Boat crossed the line at 1:44:09am, before making their way to the St. George’s Dinghy and Sports Club Dock around 2:30am.

Renaud Laplanche is co-founder and CEO of San Francisco-based Lending Club was also onboard to experience the ride.

The late Steve Fossett set the record in 2000 on the same course with a time of 38 hours, 35 minutes and 53 seconds. Fossett's boat averaged about 16 knots during the trip, according to the World Sailing Speed Record Council.
