Haley Powell and her Roger Williams University Women’s Sailing teammates were back on the water for the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's National Championship in St. Petersburg, Fla. on Tampa Bay co-sponsored by the University of South Florida, St. Petersburg, Eckerd College and St. Petersburg Yacht Club.
Eighteen collegiate teams from across the nation are vying for the national title, the Gerald C. Miller Trophy, awarded to the winning team.
Racing got underway under sunny skies and temperatures in the 80s – a beautiful day for sailing. A Division and B Division started the racing with their seventh race in the series competing on an inner and outer trapezoid course.
Dartmouth are currently in first place with 149 points, 39 points ahead of Boston College and St. Mary's College of Maryland who both have 188 points. These teams also held the top three spots after racing yesterday. Roger Williams University are in 15th place with a 294 point total.
