Jesse and Zander Kirkland moved up from 30th to 28th on Day Three of the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta 2012 going at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.
In the 49er fleet the day belonged to Australian’s Nathan Outerbridge and Iain Jensen, who threw down a fourth and back to back first place finishes, Outerbridge commented, “Obviously the wind today was very different to what we had yesterday but we had good boat speed and really good starts. We managed the good starts yesterday but couldn't quite put it away, so today we sailed clear of the other boats as much as we could and used our boat speed to our advantage. It worked out for us.”
They lead the fleet with 22 points, Emmanuel Dyen and Stephane Christidis from Frace are in second place with 28 points and Dave Evans and Ed Powys from Great Britain are third with 30 points.
Bermuda’s Kirkland’s ended Day Three with 98 points.
The pair finished the first race of the day in 13th, before finishing 16th in the second race. In the third and final race of the day the Kirkland’s recorded their third best finish of the regatta thus finishing in 8th place.
