William Hutchings sailed the Tufts University A Division boat to a Division victory but could not prevent them from finishing the Dave Perry Trophy Regatta 5th overall.
Yale hosted the first Dave Perry Trophy, named for the 1977 alumnus who as captain led the team to the 1975 national championship. Perry has remained an active part of Yale Sailing, both as a board member of the Yale Sailing Associates and as a rules advisor to the Bulldogs for both team and match racing. Thirteen teams attended the event, held at the McNay Family Sailing Center.
Spectacular sailing conditions were the highlight with a 18-knot westerly wind blowing Hutchings never finished outside the top six, in the 11 race series while winning the Division.
Hutchings recorded 5 victories, 2 second place finishes, 2 fourth place finishes as well as a fifth and sixth place finish in the Division for hi 28 points.
