Wells Injured im Huddersfield Hammering

IslandStats.com
Bermudian striker Nahki Wells’ hopes of hitting his 20-goal target this season were dealt a severe blow when he was replaced at half-time with a knee injury as Huddersfield Town crashed to a 4-0 defeat in an English Championship match at Bristol City.

The injury has now left open to question whether Wells will be fit enough to play for Bermuda in their Caribbean Cup second-round matches.

Head coach David Wagner described it as Huddersfield’s worst performance of the season.

He disclosed after the game that 25-year-old Wells’ knee injury could keep him out of the final match of the season against Brentford, Wells has scored 18 goals so far this term.

Huddersfield slipped to 19th place, one below Bristol City, but are well clear of the relegation zone.

The Bermuda Football Association were hoping Wells would make himself available for Bermuda’s Caribbean Cup second-round matches against French Guiana and Dominican Republic in June.

Bermuda fans would remember during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia campaign a year ago Wells sat out of the matches against Guatemala.

Bermuda take on French Guiana on June 1st at the Stade Municipal Dr Edmard Lame in Cayenne before returning to the island to face Dominican Republic at the National Sports Centre on June 7th.

Dominican Republic, who are ranked 18 places above Bermuda in the FIFA world rankings, finished top of their qualifying group on goal difference after losing 2-1 away to Curaçao before a 2-0 victory over Barbados.

Bermuda advanced from the preliminary round after finishing as runners-up on goal difference behind group winners French Guiana, who they defeated 2-1 here in March. Cuba failed to advance after beating Bermuda at home before losing away to French Guiana.
