BFA Annual Congress Meeting Held

The Bermuda Football Association held their Annual Congress Meeting inside the City Hall, with member clubs discussing outstanding issues from the Congress meeting held in2021, plus more.

Other than the voting for Executive positions, the restructuring of Senior Football was printed in the Activity Report.

Shannon Burgess was re-elected as the First Vice President, while Kim Richards was re-elected as the Treasurer.

Burgess also holds the position of Competitions Committee Chairman explaining to the congress, the proposed options.

Burgess said, “We have had conversations with players, coaches, and clubs and we have come up with two options that we need to discuss and make a decision in the very near future.”

Option 1.

a) Reduce the number of teams in the Senior League: Premier Division, 1st Division, 2nd Division, - 7 teams in each.

b) Play-off between the bottom two teams in the Premier League take on the top two teams in the 1 Division, or the bottom Premier Division team take on the second-placed team in the 1st Division.

c) Cup competition would be for each division

d) Format gives lower Division more competitive matches

e) Top players in top teams will play high-level matches every week

f) Consideration to make top-tier matches less taxing on referees

g) Teams will be provided the opportunity to gauge their level, with the ability to move to higher levels of competition

Option 2.

a) One league, 12 teams, plus an A-League

i) Premier League (Club licensing mandatory for entry into the league: minimum venue standards: minimum training facility standards)

ii) A-League (Club Licensing not mandatory)

b) Loan System – 2-year trial

c) Double headers – Premier Division double headers to increase spectator attendance

The congress would also vote for Executive Members, with would see the top five taking the post:
