Despite a brave second-half showing by Justin Donawa and his determined Solihull Moors teammates fell to a 2-0 defeat at third-placed Torquay United on Tuesday night.
Jake Andrews gave Torquay an early lead with a great free-kick from 25 yards. Solihull keeper Ryan Boot scrambled across his goal and got a hand to the ball, but could only push it against the inside of his left-hand post, and it rolled into the net.
Adam Randell made it 2-0 just before the break, driving in a fine first-time shot from a deep cross by Andrews moments after Jamie Ward had missed a great chance for the visitors.
Behind but not disheartened, Solihull’s Kyle Hudlin was causing problems up top, his flick-on put Donawa through but Torquay keeper Lucas Covolan spread himself well to deny him.
Donawa was looking lively, inches away from connecting with a Kyle Storer free-kick, and then the Bermudian saw an acrobatic effort fly over.
