St. David’s have informed the Bermuda Football Association that they will NOT be showing up for the FA Challenge Cup match against the Southampton Rangers that was rescheduled for tonight at the National Sports Center.
St. David’s have made a formal complaint against the decision made by the Appeals Committee.
www.islandstats.com spoke with former club President Otis Minors who confirmed that St. David’s will not be showing.
Minors said, “We the club made the decision, because we felt it was not right and with the fact that we don’t have enough time before the match to appeal we have decided not to show up for the match at the National Sports Center tonight for the match.”
The Bermuda Football Association advises that further to the Appeal Committee decision regarding the appeal submitted by the Southampton Rangers against the decision of the BFA’s Competitions Committee reference their FA Cup match versus St. David’s on January 19th whereby the Appeal Committee ruled that:
• The fine of $150.00 imposed on Southampton Rangers shall remain; • Southampton Rangers Coach and offending player must serve the one match suspension; • The decision that Southampton Rangers must forfeit the match is overturned and that the match must be replayed.
As a result of the Appeal Committee decision, the Competitions Committee reschedule the match replay to take place on Wednesday, February 13th to ensure the outcome is determined prior to the next round of the FA Cup which is scheduled for this upcoming weekend. However, the Association wishes to advise that the decision by the Appeal Committee causes concern and therefore is exploring options to address this concern.
Additionally, St. David’s Cricket Club has informed the Association that they will not participate in any rescheduling of the match and are exploring options to address the Committee’s ruling.
As a result, the BFA’s Competitions Committee has postponed this match until further notice. In order not to jeopardize the FA Cup Competitions all remaining matches will proceed as schedule.
There will be no further comments on this matter at this time.
