Lewis Talks First Professional Goa
Zeiko Lewis recently scored his first professional goal, helping New York Red Bulls II to a victory in their 2017 home opener.

Despite making his national team debut for his home country of Bermuda at the age of 16, his first start as a professional soccer player was still “exhilarating” for him.

“I just wanted to put in a good shift and at the end of the day got a good result for the team,” Lewis said. “I was happy we got the result, I was happy I scored, but most importantly the whole team did everything we could to make sure we won.”

His goal ended up being the game-winner in the 69th minute, off of an attempted bicycle kick from fellow teammate Hasan Ndam, that dropped to his feet through two Richmond defenders.

Lewis was the No. 17 overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft pick out of Boston College, where he holds the all-time assists record after appearing in 74 games during his college career.

New York Red Bulls II Head Coach John Wolyniec has seen Lewis progress in the early parts of the season.

“He’s got a tenacity we saw in the (MLS) Combine and in watching his games in college,” Wolyniec said. “We’re really starting to see that from him, as he gets stronger with the group.

“It’s great to see him get off to a good start,” the head coach said.
