Aston Villa Identify Wells as Their Target

IslandStats.com
With the English Transfer Window date of September 1st fast approaching Aston Villa Head Coach Roberto Di Matteo has reportedly identified Huddersfield striker Nahki Wells as an alternative signing to Chelsea's Patrick Bamford.

The Birmingham Mail reported yesterday that the Villa manager is trying to persuade Bamford to join on loan for the rest of the season.

But the 22-year-old, who has had spells in the Championship with Derby and Middlesbrough, is waiting to see if any top-flight clubs are interested before giving Villa an answer.

And now the Telegraph claim Villa have also set their sights on Bermuda international Wells as a back-up option should they fail to sign Bamford.

Wells, scored 18 goals for Huddersfield last season and has found the back of the net once in his side's opening two games this term.

Di Matteo, who watched on Tuesday night when his target Wells came on for Huddersfield in their 1 – 1 draw has welcomed six new signings since taking charge at Villa Park, insists he's still in the market for new recruits.

He said, "We are looking to add to our team to be as competitive as we can this season. "Every time you play, you can see how strong the opposition are. We are a work in progress. We can do better in many aspects of our game."

Meanwhile Norwich City are also among the string of clubs said to be tracking Wells.
